This is where our Feb 2020 Aviemore trip comes to an abrupt end, resulting in us returning to the West Midlands in the early hours of the next day with quite an aggressive weather front in tow. That got us thinking though, that we’re looking at every possible item from OEX so it would be good to narrow our search down even further and only look at OEX branded products within the 3 – 4 Person Tents category. Its simple tunnel design, robust flysheet and groundsheet and aluminium poles make it tough enough to protect you from stormy weather. The groundsheet is pre-attached, making pitching easy and keeping insects out. The compact front porch gives you room to store your wet kit and boots. The OEX Coyote III is the largest tent in the OEX range, letting you camp in comfort, whether solo or with a companion. The fabric: The tent is a true double-layer type so you have a polyester shell with the vestibule and its waterproof rating is impressive 5000 mm. For a while now I’ve been thinking about getting something a bit more suited to the Cumbrian climate. The kids are old enough to start hitting the hills now and I wanted something big enough for the 3 of us (and maybe the missus if I can convince her).

Regarding the best use & climate, this tent is nicely ventilated so it will work well in a warm environment, but it is almost fully closable and this is useful if you are in a cold place.
There’s a hanging point both in the inner pod and front porch for hanging lights or head torches (that’s what we did). This feels like a quality piece of kit and I’m still not entirely sure how they can make money selling it for just 89 quid (minus 10% forces discount). It also had the most internal space and the biggest porch. Important for us as we may occasionally use it as a 4 man tent (see above regarding wife).
Very minor downside, can be a little tough getting the poles in there straps as they have limited tensioning allowance and the eyebrow canopy is quite tight too. It comes with its downsides though. It’s massive. You aren’t lugging this thing far from your car. It’s also not very waterproof at all. A recent adventure confirmed this when I awoke with the entire bottom half of my doss bag in a puddle. Light, sturdy and simply pitched, with ample room for three adventurers travelling light. On the other hand, it is low profile, the poles are a quality aluminum, and its waterproof rating is simply excellent. So this is a tent for practically any environment and climate, suitable for a year-round use. Its simple 'apex' pole design makes it stay sturdy in high wind. The fire retardant, 5000HH rated flysheet will shield you from wind, rain and snow. All in all, very happy with this. Serious bargain. I think you’d struggle to find a better 3 man tent for even double what I paid for this. Sturdy design, minimal faff when pitching [enjoyed a good thunderstorm in one recently with no adverse affects!]
