About this deal

Take a boat trip: Wherever you are in Corfu, there are plenty of companies offering boat hire for a fun day out at sea. Hop on board and sail around the island in search of secluded coves and inviting swimming spots. Pastitsada (beef in a rich tomato sauce with pasta), sofrito (battered beef cooked in olive oil and wine) and bourdeto (fish stew) are among the regional delicacies you can enjoy in kitchens, traditional tavernas and restaurants of Corfu. They will enrich your holidays with the aromas and flavours of the Ionian.

A trio of traditional Corfiot dishes worth trying are pastitsada, bourdeto and sofrito. Pastitsada is a pasta dish made with rooster and a bright red sauce. Bourdeto is fish cooked in a tomato. And sofrito a dish made with veal or beef braised with wine and herbs. I’m also a fan of tsigarelli, which is a side dish of wild greens in a spicy tomato sauce. So there is no shortage of souvenir shops and restaurants aimed at tourists. The main tourist area is well kept, with flowers and plants out on the street and (unusually for Greece) some attempt at even paving. And there are endless scenic cafes. Line 15 connects the airport to the city’s bus terminal and the main city stop at San Rocco Square. From these stops, you can catch city buses around Corfu Town. For destinations around the island, Green Buses spread outwards from Corfu Town as a hub. The layout, tall buildings, public spaces and fortifications that you see are Venetian. Perhaps this is why it feels so Italian sometimes.

With its Italian influence, Corfiot cuisine is notably different from its mainland counterpart. Don't miss out on trying delicious local delicacies. If you like to do something active and exciting on your holiday, then you might want to pay a visit to the scuba diving centre in Roda. Get trained up and ready to dive with some qualified instructors and enjoy the beautiful colours and marine life under the blue Ionian Sea. From lush green hills to noble mansions and from idyllic beaches to impressive museums, this island has everything it takes to please any type of traveler. Traditional Villages. If you’re driving around the south of the island, stop by the inland town of Lefkimmi for a slice of traditional Greek life (and lunch).Argyrades, Lakones, Chlomas, Vatos, Pelekas village (up in the hills above the beach) and Afionas village are also charming.Originally the Palace of St Michael and St George, it was built in 1815 by the British to be the residence of of the Lord High Commission. Fish is also an important part of the diet. Local specialities include savoro, a spicy sauce made with olive oil, vinegar, garlic, rosemary, raisins and bay leaves in which sailors would preserve their fish for long journeys — another Venetian legacy. Not to be missed is tsigareli, a delicious and very local way of serving green vegetables such as cabbage or spinach using lots of herbs and spices including paprika, dill, fennel and cayenne pepper. There’s also a lovely beach here (and a proper beach, not like the platforms at Faliraki) – look for the Royal Baths Cafe and Beach.

Watch a spectacular sunset with your diner: Spend your early evening in the Sunset Corfu Taverna. From the lovely terrace, you have views over rolling green hills with the shimmering sea in the distance – the perfect sunset spot. Visit the Mavroudis Olive Oil Museum: Learn about the history of olive oil extraction from the 16th century. Then, indulge in olive oil tastings, complete with local bread and olives. The resort boasts an annual wine festival, which sees a healthy turnout from tourists and locals alike, so head here if you fancy finding a new favourite wine. With live music and Greek dancing, this is a great chance to mingle and get involved in the local culture. And fig puddings ( sykomaida) are a treat unique to Corfu – look out for small round bundles wrapped in leaves. Holidays on Corfu are also famous for the food – with the many cultural influences expressed in dishes that show off Italian touches and the island’s delicious Mediterranean produce. With countless beaches and secret coves, stunning mountain scenery, the Venetian streets of its historic capital, it’s no wonder that Corfu is one of the most popular destinations in Greece.
