The IrisVision by IrisVision is a wearable sight aid in the general form factor of a large pair of goggles. It’s offered at half the price of the MyEye 2, and with good reason. The IrisVision is designed only to assist visually impaired people in reading short text using its Bubble View, Zoom, and Expanded Field of View (FOV) modes for enlargement. There are three available OrCam devices: OrCam MyEye 1, OrCam MyEye 2, and OrCam MyReader. What is the difference between OrCam MyEye and OrCam MyReader?

It is hard to find faults with this OrCam product and it is able to aid independence in many areas of daily life. You can identify objects in your surroundings (including doors, chairs and more), by asking “What is in front of me?” Despite it being the most affordable OrCam product, it is expensive. I’m fully aware it is a groundbreaking piece of kit, I just see so much potential and the price could make it unaffordable for people who really need it. This article focuses on the OrCam Read device and highlights its beneficial features for people with dyslexia and those with reading difficulties. What is OrCam Read? Designed for people with mild low vision, reading fatigue, reading difficulties including dyslexia, and anyone who consumes large amounts of text, this highly sophisticated device is simple to use – just point the Orcam Read Smart towards the text and press a button.

This is a visor style headset with a very modern design. It’s light, and comfortable to wear for long periods. eSight 4 has 24x zoom and can connect to a TV, computer or a games console. Anywhere! It’s a reading pen that does not require an internet connection, so you can read offline at home, work, school, running errands or wherever the day takes you. You can connect Bluetooth headphones or simply use the device’s built-in speaker for your audio. It reads any printed or digital text (such as text on a smartphone). Currently the device doesn’t let you know which mode it is in. However, I believe this is due to be a feature in a future update. The reason behind this is due to this specific device supporting a range of disabilities. You recieve an alert if there is not enough light to process text, meaning it could be difficult in low-light situations. Again, the product does have an LED light so this should be enabled in later updated.
Indoor games
The final type of wearable technology is purely a talking device and therefore aimed at people with very little or no useful vision. Orcam 2 The OXSIGHT software, developed originally in Oxford University, features a range of modes that can help with edge, object, text and facial recognition. If you have low vision and are out shopping, you can use the OrCam Read to read shop names, identify products on the shelf and read price tags. This is especially important in the age of COVID-19, allowing you to inspect products before touching them. You can also use the device to help navigate stores safely by asking it to read social distancing signage. Again, it does not require internet, so there is no need for WiFi to operate the device.
The laser guidance feature is great for intuitive and functional reading sessions. If you only want to read a fraction of the text, a specific box of content, or any other document segment, you can do so using this feature. Tell the device to “Read amounts,” “Read the instructions,” or “Read the title” to let it know which part of the text to focus on. Use the “Start from” command to tell it to start reading from a specific section. The OrCam reader helps people with visual impairments navigate the world and read books faster and easier. It scans and reads the text for them, saving the people time and effort to read difficult texts. Plus, OrCam doesn’t require WiFi to operate. How is OrCam different from other devices?

OrCam Learn was developed for students with reading and learning challenges, such as dyslexia, as well as any student who could benefit from additional support in their studies. It allows students to have text read to them from any surface, as well as read to the handheld device and be evaluated on their reading and comprehension. Additionally, OrCam Learn empowers parents and educators to effectively guide their support of young learners by using OrCam Learns’ data reports and analytic insights. OXSIGHT glasses can enhance remaining sight for individuals living with peripheral vision loss. The glasses are fitted with a camera that streams live video into two internal HD displays. By utilising the user’s remaining vision the glasses can potentially increase field of view to 68 degrees horizontally. The OrCam Read is a portable reading device. After been designed for people reading difficulties like dyslexia and reading fatigue, it is equally (if not more) beneficial for visually impaired people.
