About this deal

Phenylephrine hydrochloride: High blood pressure with headache, vomiting, Rarely, palpitations. Also, rare reports of allergic reactions and occasionally urinary retention in males. The anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other coumarins may be enhanced by prolonged regular use of paracetamol with increased risk of bleeding; occasional doses have no significant effect. If you forget to take this medicine Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember it an then take the next dose at least 4 hours later. Any suspected adverse reactions should be reported via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. Further Information

Patients should always read the leaflet that accompanies their medicines and ask a healthcare professional if they are unsure how many capsules of the medicine they should take. Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients: Paracetamol, caffeine and phenylephrine hydrochloride Brief description of the problem It is safe to take Lemsip max cold & flu capsules with ibuprofen or aspirin. However, do not take them with co-codamol, co-dydramol or Tramacet because these contain paracetamol. Caffeine: Caffeine is absorbed readily from oral, rectal or parenteral administration, but absorption from the gastrointestinal tract may be erratic. There is little evidence of accumulation in any particular tissue. Caffeine passes readily into the central nervous system and into saliva. Concentrations have also been detected in breast milk. It is metabolised almost completely and is excreted in the urine as 1-methyluric acid, 1-methylxanthine and other metabolites, with only about 1% unchanged.Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10 g or more of paracetamol. Ingestion of 5 g of more of paracetamol may lead to liver damage if the patient has risk factors (see below). You have non-cirrhotic liver disease (liver disease that is not associated with changes in the structure of the liver) There are limited data on the use of guaifenesin in pregnant women. Guaifenesin has been linked with an increased risk of neural tube defects in a small number of women with febrile illness in the first trimester of pregnancy. Paracetamol is excreted in breast milk, but not in a clinically significant amount. Available published data do not contraindicate breast feeding. If you take paracetamol in the hour before or the six hours after taking colestyramine, the paracetamol is likely to be less effective. This is because colestyramine reduces the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. You should avoid taking Lemsip max capsules one hour before or six hours after taking colestyramine.

Antiemetics: The speed of absorption of paracetamol may be increased by metoclopramide or domperidone and absorption reduced by cholestyramine. Adults, the elderly and children 16 years and over: One sachet every 4–6 hours as required. Do not take more than 4 sachets in 24 hours. The safety of this medicine during pregnancy and lactation has not been established but in view of a possible association of foetal abnormalities with first trimester exposure to phenylephrine, the use of the product during pregnancy should be avoided. In addition, because phenylephrine may reduce placental perfusion, the product should not be used in patients with a history of preeclampsia. Caution is advised if paracetamol is administered concomitantly with flucloxacillin due to increased risk of high anion gap metabolic acidosis (HAGMA), particularly in patients with severe renal impairment, sepsis, malnutrition and other sources of glutathione deficiency (e.g. chronic alcoholism), as well as those using maximum daily doses of paracetamol. Close monitoring, including measurement of urinary 5-oxoproline, is recommended. Flu sneaks up on you. You can be infected for days before realising it. You can be innocently infecting others a whole day before your own symptoms show up. And you can stay contagious for up to five to seven days after you first go down with it.

Paracetamol is excreted in breast milk, but not in a clinically significant amount. Available published data do not contraindicate breastfeeding.
