About this deal

NB: Although DE is safe for people, if used improperly, the fine particles can cause eye and respiratory irritation. Therefore, we recommend using a protective mask, glasses and a convenient hand-duster like the popular Pest Pistol (R) Mini Duster. Most homeowners will find aerosol formulations easier to apply than liquids. Moreover, aerosol products which can be dispensed by hand – and thus directed under and behind beds, furniture, etc. – tend to be more effective than “foggers” or “bug bombs” which are indiscriminately set off in the center of a room. It is essential that the application is thorough and includes all likely areas of flea development. There are various forms of home flea treatments, and you may find that some suit lifestyles or levels of severity better than others: Sprays

But it is natural, which may be vital for you if you don’t like to use harsh chemicals or have an aversion to ingredients commonly used. It’s a trigger spray too, so can eliminate the risk of airborne particles by offering more targetted liquid spraying. Many homeowners use organic products such as powdered Safer Brand Diatomaceous Earth, which fleas cannot resist. And it’s effective. Scientists suggest that DE is a great natural flea insecticide. Experts from Penn State Extension explain that DE “kills insects [fleas] through desiccation: they abrade the wax and oil on the insect’s outer covering, leading to dehydration and death.” Flea Bomb Can Kill All Bugs Immediately: True or False? Fleas are unpleasant for pets and humans and can, unfortunately, have a relatively long life cycle. Therefore, finding a product that really works is vital. STEP 1: Fill a couple bowls with water and mix a two tablespoons of dish soap into each one. Dawn dish soap is a great flea killer, and it will get rid of them in minutes. You will need one bowl per flea trap. The best type to use is ones that are fairly wide with low sides as this gives a higher chance to catch a leaping flea. I have had a few readers suggest the use of large plates or pie dishes and I am happy to say that after trying it, this works very well! (Thanks Andrew!) However, fleas can also thrive in winter inside your home, as you will be using central heating and blankets to create a warm environment for yourself. Unfortunately, fleas also thrive in the warmth. Then, either direct your desk lamp onto the surface of the bowl to attract the fleas, or place a floating candle in the middle of the bowl and light it. In simple terms, you have to be patient. Maybe not what you want to hear if you’re being bitten every night, but patience is key to eradicating the issue. The pyrethroid also has shown a toxic effect on rats and other small animals, so do the same with these. Lastly, it is highly toxic to aquatic mammals, so remove fish tanks before using flea sprays. All you will need is a small light source such as a desk lamp or even a floating candle (bear in mind that you should not leave a burning candle unattended, and so a trap made with a floating candle will not be suitable for overnight use) and something to trap the fleas, and the latter item is easier to make than you might suspect! Added to this, when it comes to household flea infestations, actual adult fleas that can move around on their own and that will be attracted to the light make up only around 5% of the total flea count of your home; the egg, larvae and pupae stages of flea development, none of which will be attracted to a flea trap, will account for the vast majority of the total flea count in your home.

If you want to try using it, be very careful! Follow the instructions so as to not cause any harm to yourself and to others. The vet also recommended Boric Acid which I put in dark places and on her cat tower and generally around where she hangs out. Without getting rid of the eggs, larvae and pupae, your pet will never be free. Did you know that a female flea can lay up to 50 eggs every single day? With a lifespan of three months, that is a lot of kids. I have sent my two shag rugs off to get professionally cleaned. I’m also having them do a treatment for ridding dust mites, which I heard can sometimes also work on fleas. The temperature in which they wash is over 200 degrees F. Will this kill/remove any and all stages of the flea or is there more I would need to do?If potentially airborne sprays and foggers are not suitable as you or your pet have respiratory issues, a powder could work. Again, thank you so much for all the work you’ve put into this! I’m sure I’ll refer to it time and again, so glad I found it!

Light bulb, water and soap traps – These traps are often homemade and since fleas are attracted to light, we can use this to our advantage. The basic process is to suspend or lean a light source (such as a small bedside lamp or an electric bulb) over a shallow pan or bowl that is full of water and soap. When the adult fleas come and investigate the light, they hop right into the bowl (to get closer to the light) and drown. I have used this method before and while I have found it to be fairly effective, I find that the fleas don’t always land in the bowl (unless the electric bulb is extremely close to the water, which of course is fairly dangerous) and while and it’s actually the basis for my own brand of trap, I would advise you to rather use my homemade flea trap that we will discuss shortly. NB. Mind that just like bed bugs, fleas mutate and certain types of them acquire the ability to resist insecticides. This is particularly evident in the research of the National Center for Biotechnology Information, which states that “Ctenocephalides felis [cat flea] resistance has been reported to: carbamates, organophosphates, pyrethroids, pyrethrins, organochlorines, and fipronil – more categories than any other flea species.” The UC IPM Program specialists add: “Products for eliminating adult fleas outdoors are somewhat limited because many field populations of cat fleas are resistant to pyrethroids such as permethrin.”

Help and Resources

False. Many people try to use bug bombs and foggers, but the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, NY specialists, warn: “Foggers and bug bombs are not effective against them.” This is so because the sprayed droplets of the synthetic fog cannot penetrate the hidden spots inhabited by the bugs. It can be applied at homes, in garages, kennels, on carpets, rugs, wood flooring, tile, drapery, furniture, cushions, pet sleeping & bedding areas, which is literally everywhere indoors. The users claim that before applying the spray, it is necessary to move the furniture in the room, vacuum clean everything, spray the surface and leave it to dry. It’s better to remove pets and children from the room, and an exterminator should wear a protective mask! You may need to spray for a second time within a few days, and do not forget to vacuum clean the room every two days after the treatment. A form of fogger, flea bombs are often more on the professional scale versus spray foggers – for those who really have tried everything else.
