About this deal

Known to some as the first European to explore the upper Mississippi, and widely as the namesake of ships and hotel chains, Pierre-Esprit Radisson is perhaps best described as an eager hustler with no known scruples. Kidnapped by Mohawk warriors at the age of fifteen, Radisson assimilated and was adopted by a powerful family, only to escape to New York City after less than a year. After being recaptured, he defected from a raiding party to the Dutch and crossed the Atlantic to Holland, which begins a lifetime of seized opportunities and frustrated ambitions. But this trip is different. Joshua bumps into a mysterious woman while buying a book for the flight. Cloaked in a hat and sunglasses, she glances around nervously as if she were being followed. She and Joshua share a moment when she drops her cellphone and he retrieves it for her. Now Mark Bourrie has written a much more probing book about this remarkable man, drawing on recently discovered manuscripts he had written for various French and British kings and aristocrats. This unusual biography has been published by Biblioasis, the innovative Windsor company.

However the Radisson story isn’t all long canoe trips and adventures in the North American wilderness. Bourrie chronicles his extended stays in France and England and the kind of shysters and schemers he connected with. Both runner beans and green beans can be called pole beans, with runner beans producing higher crops per plant, while green beans produce sweeter crops, earlier in the season. Read our guide for more information about the difference between runner beans and green beans. Crop comparison: Bush beans vs pole beans But Canadian non-fiction, talking about memoirs, cookbooks, little kids books about dinosaurs, Canadian biographies, all that stuff accounts for less than five per cent of the Canadian book sales in Canada. And non-fiction is a little over 30 per cent. There are bush varieties of scarlet runner beans as well as haricot or French beans. These can be grown in smaller pots, troughs or vegetable growing containers. They can even be grown in window boxes or balcony troughs. Runner beans do not grow as bush beans as they are unable to support themselves. You can however find dwarf runner beans, which reach similar heights for a more controlled, compact, gardening style, where 2-3m of bamboo supports might be considered an eyesore. What are pole beans? Then the Iroquois did something that Bourrie believes may be unique in New France: they adopted him into their society.

Fertilisation is also not absolutely necessary, but can be carried out on relatively nutrient-poor soils in the spring at the beginning of growth. Bush beans and pole beans are bred for their height so will never outgrow, or undergrow their intended size. Pole beans naturally want to grow upwards, and should never be pruned to limit their size. Bush beans will only ever reach a maximum of 3ft and have much stronger stems. Can you grow bush beans and pole beans together? Known to some as the first European to explore the upper Mississippi, and widely as the namesake of ships and hotel chains, Pierre-Esprit Radisson is perhaps best described, writes Mark Bourrie, as “an eager hustler with no known scruples.” Kidnapped by Mohawk warriors at the age of fifteen, Radisson assimilated and was adopted by a powerful family, only to escape to New York City after less than a year. Lies, murder, and plunder aside, Radisson left us with the story of a remarkable man, a very free man in a time when they were rare... and a brave man who must have been a tremendous dinner companion, as long as you weren't on the menu."The main difference between bush and pole beans is height, with pole beans usually reaching at least 6ft tall, and bush beans typically standing 2-3ft tall. What are bush beans?

Bush Runner also makes it clear that what Europeans really brought to North America were guns, iron axes and diseases the natives were unprepared for. The native tribes spread across the continent had a pretty good life before the arrival of the Europeans. The tribes living in the Great Lakes region farmed and hunted. The average native was bigger and healthier than the usual European. Radisson was captured by the Iroquois when he was very young, was adopted by a prominent family and learned the language. So this book is full of insights into Indigenous life in the 1600’s — not just regarding the Iroquois but also the Cree and even the Sioux with whom he connected in his fur trading. William Shakespeare) If it be true that good wine needs no bush , 'tis true that a good play needs no epilogue.

What is a Sucker on a Rose Bush?

The Tomato 'Tumbler' I planted in VegTrug Poppy in the conservatory have made great progress. this bushy, trailing variety is ideally suited to pots and hanging baskets and I'm intending it to cascade over the sides of the VegTrug. The plants are already branched and producing flowers. As Poppy only holds a smaller volume of compost I will need to start feeding these soon. Although you do not usually start feeding with a tomato fertiliser until the first truss has set, I'm going to give these a weak solution of tomato feed from now on to prevent the plants from becoming thin and weak. The is a podcast interviewing Mark Bourrie on CBC if you do not mind podcasts. Not a bad interview, but podcasts are not my favourite media. Mark Bourrie is interviewed on the Morning Show on Global News.
