About this deal

You are able to set commands for individual buttons, as well as combination commands, such as the top two or lower two buttons pressed simultaneously. Why You Should Trust Me At first, without the palm rest I like how my palm rests comfortably on the desk but with my palm up against the contoured front of this model the ball position feels different from the old one under my fingers. Assign custom features to the top button. Note: the top button can only be programmed to perform one function at a time. Oh, and the scroll wheel DOES stay working when switching between 2 computers with the cheap iogear 2-port VGA/USB/Sound KVM switch so I'm just as happy with this new USB Expert Mouse as I've been with the vintage one I'd been using for over 20 years and wouldn't have replaced if I hadn't needed the "mouse" to be USB for my new KVM.

The height and angle mean it is best to use the provided foam and pleather pad, unless you like wrist pain. Ease of Usage The sheer size of the Kensington Expert does mean you will still need to use side to side wrist movement, which may plave even more strain on your wrist. As I just took it out of the box, unplugged the PS/2 plug of my 20 year old Expert Mouse, and plugged this brand new restyled USB Expert Mouse into my PC here is what I've determined so far... The symmetrical design and simple grid layout make casual use very natural and comfortable once you find your preferred hand placement and layout. For whomever has complained about the stiff, hard ball movement, as a regular daily user of an original Kensington Expert Mouse that I've had since I bought it new literally 20 years ago (in the days of Windows 3.1) I must say that they are wrong, period. There is no access hole on the bottom either. Instead, the ball lets gravity do the work, and to remove the ball you simply grip it and lift, or just turn the whole device upside down and let the ball fall out. Style BALL 9000 While many ambidextrous designs have come and go, the Kensington Expert has outlasted most of them. Does the device work on a different port? Are the red LEDs lighting up or is the device getting no power whatsoever? If no power, does the device work properly on a different USB port? If not, try the device on a different computer if one is available. Does the device work on this other computer? This goes double for using USB 3.0 ports and multiple wireless devices, which are notorious for causing signal interference. Kensingtonworks Software Program buttons to perform frequently used editing functions such as cut, paste, redo, copy, and select all.

Overall, the Kensington Expert is a very comfortable mouse with one caveat: the angle of the device, added with the height, may mean added stress placed on your wrist.

Customizing the Ergo TB550: Straightforward Software

Someone with longer fingers may or may not feel like they need more support than this newer model offers compared to the older versions and the new removable palm rest may or may not be a good solution for those who want more wrist support, I don't know yet. Essentially you need around 4 inches of support to use this device, go by the supplied one as a guide - but it hurts (me anyway) to use it.

UPDATE: Basically 60 days into ownership and the revised ergonomics of this model (versus my original vintage serial/PS2 Expert Mouse) have been totally fine for extended daily usage periods with my short fingers without the optional gel palm rest. The simple grid layout, coupled with the large ball, make the Expert very easy to use. You can even roll the ball all five fingers if you wanted to. Accessibility Another way is to “claw grip” the north end of the ball, with your index and ring fingers occasionally resting on the two top buttons. The Kensington Expert’s styling is simple, yet bold and sophisticated. From the side, a simple triangular wedge and semi-circle.Kensington has obviously put some thought into this and eliminated that big straight high edge front lip which lets me set my wrist and the edge of my palm directly on the desk and that actually feels nice but that also places the ball under the middle of my hand (closer towards my palm) instead of under the middle of my fingers (closer towards my finger tips) which gives the ball a different feel, initially a bit awkward and less familiar but time will tell how my brain chooses to adapt to the new design...
