About this deal

Many of the collectors who own these films are elderly and have made no provision to secure the future of their prized assets, meaning we stand to lose much of the physical history and cultural heritage of filmmaking for good, particularly with digital filmmaking and projection now established as the standard.

A short specially shot insert as part of that year’s Christmas Night with the Stars. It's Christmas Day, Hugh, Terry and his mother have the Wormwolds and the Crispins over for Christmas lunch. Terry intends on playing Charades, but confusion among the guests continuously scuppers his efforts. HC: It's always the one I've bought most recently. The one I'm mad about at the moment is the Washburn I use for acoustic songs live. It's like a semi-acoustic but the sound-hole is filled with wood and it's got hollow bits inside it. I keep playing it at the moment. I plug it into my Hot Watt and go crazy. HC: Not really. I'm completely self-obsessed with my own lyrics. If I tried to interpret other people's lyrics I'd probably get it as wrong as people do when they think they understand mine. Just over a 1/3 of the Hugh and I catalogue exists and, whilst this is better than nothing, it still feels like a travesty that a sizeable chunk of the 1960s British comedy landscape has been obliterated out of existence with a carelessness more readily associated with waiters at Frankie and Benny's. And, for so many, many decades, it was believed that Hugh and I Spy had been completely destroyed - much like any meal at Frankie and Benny's - so this was even more galling than Hugh and I's fate. Hope springs eternal, though, and eventually we've been rewarded with a snapshot of Hugh and I Spy.Bennett, Steve (26 October 2023). "Lost episodes of classic Eric Sykes and Terry Scott sitcoms discovers: News 2023: Chortle: The UK Comedy Guide". www.chortle.co.uk . Retrieved 26 October 2023.

HC: Good. That's reassuring. Nothing is as simple as it seems. It's like everyone thinking Strawberry Fields was about acid but Strawberry Fields was a lunatic asylum behind John Lennon's aunt's house where he used to live. He used to nip over the wall and play in the grounds there. The song's just another song about childhood memories. People always try to make their own interpretations fit. When Hugh's planned holiday to the countryside is scuppered. Terry takes him to the airport, where they head off to Paris for a weekend trip. Terry's mother is severely ill with lumbago. There's confusion about when the Doctor arrives, and multiple meals arrive all at once, while Terry and Hugh become smitten for the district Nurse. Also features Derek Nimmo as Doctor.

Series 2

The collectors, together with academics from DMU’s Cinema and Television History Institute (CATHI), are holding ‘Film is Fabulous!’ at the Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre in Leicester at the end of the month. The Artist views the world through a glass darkly, he frequently does not like what he sees. Always on the outside looking in. He used to shoot to kill with electric guitar shards, now he strums, hums and smiles a lot more. Hugh and I ran for six series between 1962 - 67 before writer John Chapman decided to call time on the partnership. However, less than a year later, he decided there was still mileage in the duo and drafted them into a world of espionage in Hugh and I Spy, the title itself being a knowing nod to the US TV series I Spy. Terry and Hugh were more than up for a reunion as Terry noted when he said "The trouble when you're on your own is that people are always saying: where's the other one? They think they are only getting half their money's worth". All episodes from the first, fifth and sixth series were 30 minutes, while episodes from the other series were 25 minutes long. The surviving 25/30-minute episodes are indicated by their archive status, as are the two Christmas Night With the Stars specials. [10] Series 1 (1962) [ edit ] No.

HC: Yeah, that sounds pretty good (laughs). Look it's been very nice talking but I don't think I've got anything else to contribute. Is that very rude of me? It's the day of Terry's cousin Ivy's wedding, and he has been volunteered by her mother Mavis to host the wedding reception, without letting him know in advance. Chaos soon abounds when Ivy rekindles her former adoration for Hugh. Also features Sheila Steafel as Ivy. The three finds will be returned to the BBC Archive for scanning shortly. They are part of a series of discoveries made by Film is Fabulous! in recent months. More classic British television finds will be announced in the coming days. The convention aims to put these vulnerable film treasures in the spotlight and create a support network to help older collectors ensure their films will be preserved in the future. Hugh is dismayed that his birthday has been overlooked. So Terry and Mum decide to organise a belated birthday party for him.Hugh finds out that Norma shares his admiration for Jazz music. One evening whilst Terry and his mother are away at a dinner party over at the Wormwolds, he invites Norma's Jazz group, the Tooting Trad Type over, so they can practise in the living room. They have a simple and easily led lodger, Hugh Lloyd, who works at a local aircraft factory. The two often try and make money through one of Scott's schemes. Their next door neighbours, the Crispins and the Wormolds, also make frequent appearances.
