About this deal

Feeling disconnected from everyone including her beloved father, Freckles as she is known has been hurt multiple times and keeps everyone at arms length including the reader. This one however, didn't hit the spot for me although the format of audio was pretty great and kept me going.

Trotzdem hat mir das Lesen sehr viel Spaß gemacht und insbesondere die letzte Hälfte hat es mir besonders angetan. Running alongside this is her new job as a traffic warden and the people she gets to know in Dublin.

It took me a little while to get into this book, all the early events seemed pretty random and I wondered what the point was. I was iffy about Tristan developing a close relationship with Allegra at first, considering how he had acted towards her but I actually grew to really like their friendship and how we leaned more about Tristan, his 'Rooster' identity and how he was striving to be more, and how Allegra helped him do this. I think I am going to be in the minority with this book when I say that I was very disappointed in it. However, without spoiling, Allegra is used, abused and let down so many times, I just prayed there would be some sort of happy ending eventually. Allegra Bird is a traffic warden living in Malahide, a well-to-do suburb on the outskirts of Dublin city.

It's one of those books that you enjoy every second of and find yourself smiling your way through, with some real laugh out loud moments too. What stood out for me, particularly since I was listening to the audiobook, was how natural and believable the narrator was. Originally from Valentia Island off the coast of Kerry, Allegra’s father, a single parent, struggled at times to provide the necessary balance in her life, so she was sent to a boarding school.

Thank you Random Thing Tours for inviting me to this tour and providing an advanced copy for me to review and give my honest and unbiased opinion. I loved Allegra's job as a still life model, and this control over her body, and the way she was able to see parts of herself in others work was just so interesting to read. Definitely a self-provoking read, only think I’d like to point out is that I might have preferred a direct dialogue between characters. Allegra Bird moves away from her small town to the big smoke with a dream job and a huge secret mission that would change her life forever, if only she had the courage to follow it through. Allegra was always aware of her father’s love for her but she had never known the love of her mother who abandoned them both following Allegra’s birth.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The absence of quotation marks in the writing, along with finely detailed descriptive passages, adds an intimate layer to the storytelling. In conclusion, “Freckles” is one of the most uplifting and refreshing books, offering a delightful journey through the landscapes of Ireland and the complexities of human relationships.Allegra Bird likes routine and putting on a uniform everyday provides a much-needed sense of belonging. The insult that she is the average of the five people she spends the most time with becomes a catalyst for change, propelling her on a journey to redefine her relationships and find her true self. The book weaves through Allegra’s life, unravelling her complex relationships, family history, and her quest for meaningful connections. Apparently, her mother didn't want her at all and other than when Allegra was at boarding school, it's been her and pops forever.

Her innocence in how she sees the world is refreshing and tugged at my heart especially when it leads her to situation you know she may get hurt. De som van jou' van Cecelia Ahern is namelijk niet bijzonder romantiek of spannend zoals je misschien gewend bent van andere verhalen, al zit er wel een kleine romantische laag in. I'd definitely recommend this book, and would also recommend the audiobook if people had access to it as it was a great listen. This book doesn’t provide the touristy version; rather, it gives a resident’s view into the functioning of the city.Ze leidt een teruggetrokken, routinematig leven en ze houdt vrijwel iedereen op afstand, maar ze is niet eenzaam.
