Action, tension, a marvellous mix of characters, and incredibly thought-provoking while being huge fun to read. He wins the contest and uses his skills to repair and renew the technology damaged by war, but is also used to unknowingly complete a deadly weapon to be used against the Funks. Peaceable, calm Adam has power to swing the fight one way or another, but which side deserves his support? You can't exactly say "Adam 2" is a "delight," since its message is essentially so depressing--human individuality inexorably squashed by one insidious system after another--yet, well, it sort of is anyway. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

I also liked that one of the main characters was non-binary and it was just a normal part of the story. When Adam is taken to the human encampment he is greeted with suspicion and dislike and forced to undergo a gladiatorial contest against an immense and aggressive robot. ADAM2, CALR3 and SAGE1 cancer/testis antigens are not promising targets for immunotherapy of breast and lung cancer. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Funks – robots with functional intelligence – and humans have been at war for centuries and there seems no end to the hostilities. I really enjoyed Adam-2 and this book stands proud and powerful on its own and is a fabulous sci-fi middle grade book to add to Alastair’s rapidly growing amazing portfolio of adventures.

The resolution of the conflict was very touching and had a great message - I always love this in a middle grade. With a diverse cast of complex characters, an exhilarating plot and a real sense of peril, Adam-2 is a breathtaking science fiction thriller. When 2 humans break into his basement, he goes with them to their camp and has to prove he is not like the robots that simply want to kill humans. I adored this story a lot and it's one of the few middle grade books I've read where pronouns were explicitly stated, which will be great for kids learning about gender and being non-binary.Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. The story is set 200+ years in the future in a world where humans and robots with advanced intelligence are at war. Right from the beginning, this book was pulling at my heartstrings, making me smile and posing interesting questions for me to ponder in between reading. Apart from these issues, the story has much to offer in terms of the need for empathy and tolerance in overcoming conflicts between people groups. The fertilin beta contributes not only to successful fertilization, but may has an important impact in development of preimplantation embryos.

It is good to finally read a story with a non binary main character (using the pronouns ze/hir), who is integral to the plot.Surrounded by enemies who want to use him, and allies who mistrust him, Adam must decide who - and what - he really is. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! This is not a problem in itself, but it does not seem to fit into the story very well for the following reason: In the book modern society is said to have collapsed, and when people are fighting for their very survival it seems unlikely that they would be much concerned with gender identities and gender-neutral pronouns. In addition to Adam-2, who was a very adorable robot just trying his best to make the best of choices available to him and trying to solve the conflict between humans and funks with a unique perspective. There is a constant battle with no room to move and no line to be drawn between the two battling kinds. I was emotionally invested in these characters, I really want to visit Edinburgh now and as always, the overall message of empathy and understanding had me close to tears! It's a plotless (and almost completely wordless) but always engaging series of surreal forced metaphormoses for our everyman hero, whom institutions, industry and nature itself seem compelled to constantly force into new, reductive incarnations--as if any amount of individuality were something to be rigidly stamped out.
