For over 200 years Lagavulin has been crafted on the shores of Islay. Even though the distillery’s output is modest compared to some of its counterparts on the mainland, Lagavulin is easily one of the most iconic single malt whiskies in the world. Its whisky is made with the same calculation and tenacity employed by the Lannister’s in their rise to conquer the Iron Throne. This Lagavulin is a roaring whisky that recalls the Lannister’s riches and is best served neat or with a drop of water.

White Walker will debut at frozen distillery pop-ups this Saturday at New York Comic Con, according to the announcement. Inspired by the terrifying “White Walkers” from the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, whisky expert George Harper – together with Johnnie Walker’s master blenders – created a whisky that centered around to Freezing North from the series. Clynelish, a distillery from the Scottish Northern Highlands, is an important component of the blend. The “Striding Man” is outfitted with armor and weaponry inspired by the army of the Night King. Keep your bottle in the freezer, and “Winter is Here” will appear on the side of the bottle.

This whisky is supposed to evoke the idea of being around dragons by its use of Caol Ila in the blend. A workhorse distillery that makes up the main peaty component of all standard Johnny Walker blends, but seems to be all but absent from this blend. I was hoping for a massive peat-forward blend that poured like a bonfire, but as you’ll see below, it was barely a match strike. House Greyjoy rules the Iron Islands and worships the Drowned God. Talisker was a natural fit for House Greyjoy as this single malt is distilled in one of the most remote and rugged areas of Scotland, the Isle of Skye. The layered flavors and the maritime character of the Talisker Select Reserve are the result of its wave-battered shores and the maturation in heavily charred and refill casks. House Tyrell of Highgarden rules over the Reach, the lush and fertile region of Westeros. Like the Reach, Clynelish is positioned among green pastures and rolling hills, with scenic views of the North Sea. This vibrant, golden Scotch is light and floral, like House Tyrell, it’s not to be underestimated with its underlying complex combination of Highland and maritime qualities.

White Walker by Johnnie Walker was created by whisky specialist and blender George Harper. The blend includes single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish, one of Scotland’s northernmost distilleries; and is best served from the freezer, according to the company, as a special temperature-controlled design will be revealed.
