About this deal

Last month hundreds came to meet Britain’s Got Talent and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway star, Titan the Robot, as part of 20-21’s Robotic Showstopper event, and most recently, all ages came together to put on their dancing shoes and join the Folk Dance Remixed celebration. Scott McHendry, Principal Teacher of Positive Destinations, Govan High School, said: “We’re really proud to be the first high school in Scotland to host Hope. Her visit has given our pupils the opportunity to learn more about the importance of whales in protecting our planet and made for a fun and interactive session. A giant replica of Planet Earth and an 18-metre whale are coming to Wakefield as part of a three month-long festival to promote climate change action.

Many of these activities bring the themes of our Green Future strategy to life in engaging ways – including conserving and creating new habitats for wildlife and disposing of our waste correctly and recycling wherever possible.

Welcome to Inflatable World

The Green Future day is the latest free family event to take place in Scunthorpe town centre this summer. This program is about 1 hour for a class of 25 students including the introduction video. Larger groups can be accommodated.

The best way to play this game is standing, as you can move faster in your kayak. It is possible, however, to play it seated. The brilliant activities at this event will help young people think about one of the biggest issues of our time – protecting the environment – in a fun, interactive way," said North Lincolnshire Council leader Cllr Rob Waltham. "Across North Lincolnshire we are driving forward with our green priorities. The program begins with an introduction about whales. Next, students will meet Ladder. They will spend 40 minutes watching the large whale inflate and come to life, and then will go inside the whale for more information with our marine educator! Topics will include species in the Gulf of Maine, whale anatomy and adaptations, and conservation. Caring for the environment is something that touches every resident and business in North Lincolnshire – even the smallest steps of turning off appliances or walking more all add up to make a big difference.

Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The brilliant activities at this event will help young people think about one of the biggest issues of our time – protecting the environment – in a fun, interactive way.WDC is building a global network of scientists, conservationists, economists, and businesses, all united in our ambitions to save the whale as an intelligent being, and our climate ally. There will also be performances of Oscar Wilde’s much-loved children’s classic The Selfish Giant at The Lyttelton Well Hall. The council says the entire festival, which will run from July 12 to October 30, will help promote the green cause and educate people on how to make positive environmental changes to their daily lives.

Previous free family events that have taken place this summer include the Folk Dance Remixed celebration, and the Summer Reading Challenge at Scunthorpe Library in July, which 600 people attended.

Young people I talk to are incredibly enthusiastic about environmental change and are eager to get involved and shape the future they will inherit. I hope this event will inspire and entertain them." The council will support other organisations and residents in reaching this goal as close to this time frame as possible. The festival will involve city centre exhibitions, a sound and light installation in Wakefield’s former market hall and workshops in local libraries. The first four days of this year’s festival are aimed at local schools, with a programme of family events taking place on the weekend of October 28 and 29.
