About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Lindisfarne were part of the early Charisma Records pack, palling around with Van der Graaf Generator and Genesis, and whilst they really aren't all that proggy you can sort of see how they fit in with that pack. Tracks like the "Jackhammer Blues" or the "Knacker's Yard Blues" are not according to my taste and don't really fit the flow.Stücke wie der "Jackhammer Blues" oder der "Knacker's Yard Blues" sind nicht nach meinem Geschmack und passen auch nicht wirklich in den Flow. An antique frame with a picture of the band in the centre and a special font echoing the Northumbrian origins of our name would be the main features. Our self-promoted gigs at venues like Jesmond Banqueting Hall and the New Orleans Jazz Club attracted a clientele who were as daft as us and often remarked on the whacky self-produced advertising material that had drawn them to our gigs. Some of the songs are cruder in their arrangements than they became, notably We Can Swing Together, and I sometimes hear echoes of contemporaries: the Faces certainly, perhaps too Dr Strangely Strange.

Of course you wouldn’t get a band like this, nowadays, securing the commercial success of Lindisfarne (ok, maybe Mumford? As there was no one around I tore out the page and put the sheet music book back in the piano stool. Since I am a huge fan of Genesis, reading their history, I found out that they used to open for this band, so was obviously very curious as to what this band may sound like as they were being booked together.

The spine has a tear in it right in the centre, and a small split at the top of the cover, but the rest of the cover is great. Hull decided to try some, but didn’t realise it had a delayed effect and kept popping pills until something happened.I have happy memories of being blinded by the halogen spots they’d turn on the crowd at the chorus of Clear White Light, their long-time closing song. Bruce Eder of AllMusic praised Nicely Out of Tune as "easily the best album the group ever recorded". Spectrum was design company owned by Joe Robertson, responsible for early Lindisfarne imagery/posters etc. milligrammes later, Hull tripped for a month and still had flashbacks in 1978 (‘pretty frightening, really’). It's got the lot, lively and ireverent with the likes of "we can swing together" to the melodic thoughtful "Alan in the river with flowers", and perhaps in "Winter Song" one of the best songs the late and much lamented Alan Hull ever wrote.

At that time few local promoters would take a chance on booking us as our repertoire of Tyneside Delta Blues, Dylan influenced originals and Zappa covers was a little challenging to their regular punters who prefered a backdrop of Tamla Motown songs to fight and fornicate to. All above is correct except that Dave Wood, in addition to being the engineer on all of Alan's and Lindisfarne's early demos, was also the owner of Impulse Studios in Wallsend, the third partner in Hazy Music and Alan's / Lindisfarne's manager. For a while an artist friend of ours produced a monthly, hand drawn, one sheet comic, featuring the mythical exploits of our band. There was a time when, in the days I counted these things, Lindisfarne were probably the band I’d seen live most often. Drummond Amin, Tyneside rock'n'roll godfather and owner of the Shaftsbury electric 12 string guitar that Lindisfarne borrowed for the NOOT recording sessions. On the other hand, the followers could probably sing every word of ‘We can swing together’ and I suspect the roof came off on several venues when this was played live.
