About this deal
The next day at the therapist appointment, Beatrix asked whether she wanted Mommy gone or dead, and she nodded an enthusiastic yes.
Hanna didn't know that Suzette had resisted bringing her in for another CT scan — 500 times the radiation of a single X-ray — but relented to Alex's wishes. I listen and read A LOT OF BOOKS, in a typical week I can finish a minimum of 5 books, and probably start at least another 5. Alex rushed them all to urgent care, and the doctor told Suzette that the burn on her face would likely leave a scar. Stage fuses horror with domestic suspense to paint an unflinching portrait of childhood psychopathy and maternal regret. The very thought of it made her start shaking her head until Hanna twitched, glancing at her with a soured frown as if she was already stinking up the room.
You're either locked on or repulsed (or you want to scream at the DUH-ness exhibited by the husband). She left Hanna with a book and decided to clean the bathroom, a coping mechanism for stress that she had developed as a teen. I had hugely high hopes for this novel, putting it in my “most anticipated books of 2018” blog post AND predicting it being a 5 star read.
During Suzette’s chapters, my heart broke as she detailed her inability to communicate with her mute daughter, Hanna.
Hanna also knows that her silence anguishes her mother, which is an added bonus; although Hanna adores her father, who believes she can do no wrong, she despises Suzette and torments her at every turn.
